About Engineered Wood Flooring
The term Engineered wood flooring can be applied to any floor where the top layer is real wood. The base layers can vary but are most often ply-woods, HDF or even finger jointed wood. They are extremely popular due to being more stable and versatile than solid wood floors.
The base layers provide extra stability as they don't expand or contract as severely as solid wood when humidity or temperatures change. The real wood top layer which can vary in thickness is bonded to the base layer(s) and the movement is then reduced. This makes an engineered floor suitable for installation as a floating floor, so it is commonly installed on top of a suitable underlay.
